A very emotional first hand musical reaction to the events of 9/11/2001 which I lived through in NY. Without any preconceived idea I went into the studio in 1/2 mile's distance from the towers two weeks later and improvised the music.

In two three hour-sessions, I recorded over 80 minutes all completely improvised. An urgency and conviction that left no room for doubt led me. The music just needed to be played. Its emotional depth was at times almost overwhelming.

This recording is a transformation of the events of September 11, 2001 in NYC; the incredible drama, the heroism and the pain it inflicted on all of us.

Many lost friends and family but not the importance of going on facing life with even renewed tenacity. Pain will invariably bring out depth and value. All who perished shall be a sign and a lesson, teaching us a deeper love for life itself and a higher respect for everything and everybody we touch.

The intensity for life will forever be exemplified by all those running in and rescuing so many: the firemen, the police officers, the medics, port authority officers, and countless who we will never know of and stayed behind.

As much as it signaled a new level of destruction with repercussions felt around the world, it shall be a sign for peace: the necessity for the utmost respect for each and every one. Only understanding can be stronger than hate. Only the love for life can be stronger than the wish for destruction.

I will never forget the complete devastation I witnessed and the sight of ground zero itself. With no preconceived song, melody or form simply the desire to transform what I had seen and felt I went into the studio. This is the way it went song for song.

German-American pianist, composer& educator Uli Geissendoerfer moved in 2009 from New York to Las Vegas as bandleader for Cirque du Soleil’s "Viva Elvis".
